ex) Out of the blue after a night rain there was water leaking through the ceiling liner.

out of the blue /ˈbluː/: without warning
ex) Then, out of the blue, he sold his house and left the country.
* Out of the blue と a bolt out of the blue は 同じ意味で使われます。 ２つとも語源は 青い空から閃光（= bolt) が降ってくる = 思いがけない – 不意に の意味になります。 日本語の 青天の霹靂（へきれき） と似た意味です。
bolt /ˈboʊlt/: a bright line of light that appears in the sky during a storm : a flash of lightning – a bolt of lightning = a lightning bolt
ex) Thunder is caused by the rapid expansion of the air surrounding the path of a lightning bolt.
