ex) I’m behind the eight ball.
困難な状況にある
ex) If I can’t make that train, I’ll be behind the eight ball with my flight.

* behind the eight ball は ビリヤードの最後の球 (８と書かれた球 = the eight ball) を必ず 決めないと、窮地に陥る という場面から派生した アメリカのスラングです
